Basic Thinking

To create a new landscape and environment planning from given destinations, our design thinking is based on three simple concepts.

Analyzed from Music

“ 3 elements of music ”

《RHYTHM》: regular repeated pattern and relation of sound with temporal in music.

《HARMONY》: the combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce a pleasing effect. The interrelationships between a chord or tone move to the next chord or tone.

《MELODY》: a sequence of single notes that is musically satisfying. The flow of sound represents one’s range of emotion.

Transfer into Form

Consider for the future expansion and operation for daily use, supported the hotel functions by the principle of “Simple is best.”

“ 3 Musical Zone ”
《RHYTHM layout》: place the harmony concourse on over the east-west axis as a lower
long block, then layout other new buildings around clinging to this axis as transparent cylindrical bodies with different height. The whole side plan shows a joyful balance from bird view, like a painting on the ground. Volumes of building depict both heavy and light, describe the visual music. People can feel the rhythm of sunlight when they walk through the concourse, and enjoy the great nature outside. One side of this axis is started from the existing building and ending by extension buildings with a new entrance hall. The combination of straight line and circle also associate stay and move, sound and silent.

《HARMONY concourse》: Similar notes hang on the musical notation, cylindrical bodies are clinging to the axis and give function to HARMONY concourse. These function including conference and banqueting, active leisure area and other else. All the new volumes around HARMONY concourse are lower than existing one, and keep a reasonable distance from the main hotel building. This planning can shut out the noise from active area to hotel rooms.
Easy direct access from ground level and have different security needed with hotel room area.

《MELODY atrium》: There are always rest between notes, rest give accent to the music.
We suggest a unique layout for the extension part, planning rest between volumes of building.
Semi-outdoor space is the rest of architecture, between sound and silent. We call this area as MELODY atrium. It is a buffer zone between indoor and outdoor, function and plain, this place give a truly rest for people, a place for deep breath. Plant indoor green in these MELODY atriums, the whistling of trees is the aleatory music for everyone who visits this place.

Play with Time Axis

“ Harmony concouse ”& “ Melody atrium ”

Wind stirred the strings of the trees, sea waves beat the sands on the beach, rain drops fall in the moon night, and white snow whisper the silent for peace, nature created there beautiful sounds by seasons, and human learned from it and reply as music. People are living in the field of sound every day; we can hear the different of time pass and season change, if we just stop rush and stood for a while. This hotel is designed to be a music-themed upscale hotel. We try to find a best way for everyone who visits here would like to slow down and hear, even see and feel the sound. That why we suggest a long concourse for walk, and atrium for stay. After this long walk, when visitor arrive their room above the higher level at the end of the axis, those lovely sounds was left behind and dived into one’s mind. The small concert repeats every moment and every day. Play with a long axis; play by the season and the time. This simple layout also easy for the future extended, and it’s would not break the harmony of site plan. Because extended is just like add an embellishment on the musical notation. Semi-outdoor space planted green. It builds up a synthetic environment from a microclimate which control by system facilities, where maintaining a comfortable relationship with the natural environment outside. Visitor can also experience the changing seasons here, also a safety place to be children’s playground even bad weather outside. At the joint area of existing and new building, we placed a pipe organ as the symbol of this hotel. Using the temperature difference between heat and cold in winter, the equipment and systems of ventilation might be making some chord to perform music of nature. Collect all the single notes above, it become an impromptu, an impromptu for 4 seasons, echo in the broad woodland.
